Breathing Techniques are a great way to bring the body into a more relaxed state. The 4 – 7 – 8 method mimics our breathing pattern when we are in deep sleep.
By using breathing techniques throughout the day, you are encouraging you brain to switch into a parasympathetic nervous response which engages your rest and digestion systems in the body.
By introducing this simple exercise into your daily routine you are supporting your body to be more relaxed. I would also encourage to try this ahead of meal time to support your digestive system.
Logic would say to us that digestion is compromised when we are in full ‘stress’ or sympathetic mode as this is when our fight or flight response is triggered. We are not designed to be eating when our body has perceived a threat. Sadly, most of us eat on the go, at our desks, in meetings, while on our phones or in front of the TV. All these habits will either trigger a rest & digest response or a fight and flight response.
